A total pleasure

Mu husband and I were the only guests over Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights. We took the opportunity to look into every room and can say that they are all lovely. The building is great fun to explore -- as Queen Annes usually are -- and this one is especially beautiful. Rob is a lovely conversationalist and fine breakfast cook; we don't eat meat and he gave us inventive and delicious breakfasts. Everything about our bedroom and bath was just as we'd have asked for -- for example, it got chilly and there was a nice, effective space heater handy. Many of the rooms have sleeping porches, which are handy for extra family members -- especially kids, I'd imagine.
Rob told us the history of the house and several of its furnishings, and we read an article in "Adirondack Life" (I think) about it -- all quite fascinating.
We walked a lot -- the town of Saranac Lake (which is on Flower Lake!) is attractive and has quite a few good places to eat as well as good walks. The only disappointment is that one can't walk around Flower Lake; it's necessary to retrace one's steps. But it's still a pretty walk.
Franklin Manor is within easy driving distance of the town of Lake Placid (which is not on Lake Placid -- seems to be a theme), Whiteface Mountain, and many other attractions.
We hope and expect to return -- and hope it won't be too long!
