I fell in love with the Room!

I LOVED my room! I had a one bedroom suite and it was clean and BEAUTIFUL! I loved it so much from the gorgeous bathroom to the stunning living room area that I had to add another night to my stay. The hotel was not far from the train station so I had no issues with the short ride there. The hotel was very close to the Wharf which was beautiful and had plenty to do and plenty to eat. We really enjoyed La Vie since we were unable to try Dogon within the hotel. The hotel staff was very nice and friendly. So thankful to Jeremy and his team for making me feel welcome! I can’t wait to come back!

5 star resort but a 2 or 3 star room unfortunately

In our opinion we wouldn’t rate this one as a 5 star hotel hence the 3 star average review. We stayed one night and after much discussion, we moved to another 5 star hotel in the area. We paid for a suite which we found to be very dated and the carpet was kinda stained, we expressed our concerns and were offered another “upgraded suite” that was basically the same if not worse than the original suite we booked. Same concerns only slightly larger than the original one. I believe that some of the rooms are being “reimagined” but the rooms we were offered were not. The parking fee is about double as the other 5 star hotels we looked at as well. We will not book here again as you’re paying for a 5 start hotel with a 3 star room. I want to point out the bell hops and valet parking folks were great and we tipped them accordingly as it’s not their fault the hotel fell short of expectations. Shop around and draw your own conclusions

Stay was OK, but after service is the worst I have ever experienced in my 65 years on this earth

The Salamandar hotel vis British Airways as a 5* hotel, on arrival we were told it wasn't a 5*
The next day we were told the hotel had been rebranded and was now a 4* Potomac Marriott Hotel
On check out, the hotel informed us that the stay had not been paid for even though I had book and paid via BA. I had to pay USD2916 we were told this was an error and the money would be paid straight back into our account on arriving home we found the money had not been paid back to us, we tried to contact the Marriott for help to get our money back, Marriott were not even aware of the hotel and had no contact details for it. My wife was ringing the hotel trying to get the money repaid to us with no joy
Over the next few days we involved our back who informed us that the Potomac had since tried to take varying amount of cash from our account totally £10,000.
After 10 day the money was returned to us, we still had not had a reply from Marriott despite them opening 2 cases of complaint for us which they have never followed up on.
We assumed the that was the last we would hear from the hotel or Marriott as it was obvious that neither were concerned about our complaints.
Then yesterday I noticed in my bank account Potomac Hotel had taken £1778.78 from our account, on checking again with the hotel saying that our stay was never paid for so they had taken the money for it.
I contacted British Airways who confirmed that the hotel had been paid, they attempted to contact the hotel to proved our stay had been paid for, but the hotel refused to speak to them saying they were dealing directly with us
To make matters worse BA were not even aware that the hotel had even changed hands, they are now also attempting to have the hotel pay us back and have my card details removed from their database.
But as of today the Potomac have attempt to take in excess of £12000 from my account and are not able to provide us a reason why and currently we are £1778.78 out of pocket

Beautiful Hotel, Amazing Spa, and Great Location

I had an excellent stay at the Salamander DC and would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Washington, DC.
The room was spacious, spotless, and very comfortable, making it the perfect place to unwind after a day of sightseeing. The hotel's location is another standout feature—it's conveniently situated near many of DC's most popular attractions, restaurants, shopping, and the National Mall, making it easy to explore the city.
The food was fresh, flavorful, and consistently well prepared. Every meal we had was enjoyable and complemented the overall experience.
The true highlight of my stay was the spa. The facilities and amenities were exceptional and created a peaceful, luxurious atmosphere from the moment I arrived. I especially want to recognize Shaniece, who provided one of the best spa experiences I've ever had. She was warm, professional, knowledgeable, and attentive to every detail. Her expertise and genuine care made my treatment incredibly relaxing. If you're planning a spa visit, I highly recommend requesting Shaniece—she is outstanding.
Overall, my experience at Salamander DC was deserving of a 4.5-star rating. The combination of beautiful accommodations, excellent dining, an unbeatable location, and an incredible spa made for a memorable stay. With just a few minor refinements (check-in communication), it would easily be a five-star experience. I look forward to returning on my next trip to Washington, DC.

The Salamander SPA in DC

This review is only for the Salamander SPA. The SPA, unlike the hotel room bathrooms, was SPOTLESS.& SANITARY. My masseuse, Shaniece, was amazing!! Shaniece was sweet, professional, & had extremely strong hands. She gave a wonderful deep tissue massage, and my skin was THE SOFTEST & MOST HYDRATED it's ever been after the Zen Body Treatment Can't wait to return!!
