Good hotel

This place has decent rooms and a good breakfast. They do not have much double beds, but neither do much other hotels in Uzbekistan. The facilities were okay and clean. The people running this hostel are friendly. The WiFi was surprisingly good!

Flees!

Spent two nights here. Family was very friendly but only the daughter spoke a little English. Room was big but not very clean, we found out the day we left that there were flees in the room. They had bitten my legs and feet while sleeping.
Also there was a a big sign saying: “if you need help with transport, ask reception”. So we did. But the only thing they wanted to help us with was a very expensive taxi, while we repeatedly indicated that we wanted to travel by train.

Good location and price; average otherwise.

Otabek B&B is located right in the walled town of Khiva with an easy walking distance to all the sights. This way, you don't have to bother paying the entrance tickets unless you want to visit the museums inside. But the quality of rooms is quite average at most. Beds are narrow as everywhere in Uzbekistan, but there's no AC for summer time, just fans. Toilets get smelly after about a day of use. Breakfast is just okay, nothing special - bread, one boiled egg, some cheese and jam. Wifi does not work in the dorm room, and works fairly slowly upstairs. Most importantly, if you do stay here, I don't recommend using the owner for any other services as he is likely to overcharge you compared to anywhere else.

Not too good

As the guesthouse is listed on lonely planet, we decided to try arrange staying there for four nights. We walk in to Otabek and was greeted by the friendly family who run the guesthouse.
Unfortunately, the double room wasn't up to expectation. There was a stale sour rancid smell in the bedroom. The toilet wasn't clean and dusty, with dirty towel left in it. A suitcase and shoes were also in there before we check in, but they assured us that it is a new clean room.
Hence we decided to just stay for one night instead of four, even tho we were given a discount if we had stayed for 4.
The family members are really friendly and attentive. Breakfast was alright.

Friendly family B&B

We were very comfortable in the small B&b which was two minutes walk to all major sites inside the city walls.
Breakfast was good.
When you come to Uzbekistan and stay on budget hotels make sure to bring all toileteris including hand soaps, toilet paper so on. There is no supermarket inside the city walls but I think I saw a little shop. We brought some stuff with us from Taşkent.
