Good value for the price

Nice place, very friendly and helpful staff, allowed us to use the kitchen to prepare some snacks, provided a cooler for free, wifi in the terrace and living room, A/C worked regular but no mosquitos in the bedroom. Excellent location, in front of the Plaza Bolívar, next to the bank, in front of the beach, good illumination at night so you can go out and walk in the beach. Would suggest a better facility for bathroom and work on the humidity of the environment. The food was ok but the veggies cream (soup) at night was excellent!

Room Was Small and Similar to a Basic Campsite but Expensive

The food was terrible. My room didn't lock and all that could fit was a bed with an attached bathroom. I was one person but I don't know how anyone could fit 2 people in the room. It is next to the square which has music blasting all day and night. It was disgusting and ruined my experience in Los Roques. Pay more and get more.

Stay here if you like dirt, cold water, rude staff and terrible food

I have never stayed in a hotel, hostel or b&b where the staff was so unfriendly, unmotivated and straight out rude. The guy that opened the door, the first day we got there was visibly annoyed at any inquiry we made during our stay (related to the time of breakfast or dinner, ice coolers to take on our trip or the whereabouts of the remote for the ac). Several times his reply to these inquiries was yawning in our faces. Breakfast was acceptable but repetitive (arepas, eggs, ham and cheese every day), dinner was straight out disgusting (watery tasteless vegetables, old stinky fish). The room was dirty when we got there and was not cleaned once during our four-night stay.
There is very little positive that I can say about this posada besides the location, which is right in the middle of the town at the town square. If you go to Los Roques, which is a beautiful place, I would recommend to spend a little bit more money and stay in one of the other nice posadas that we have seen during our walks through the town (in order to avoid being in that posada for too long)

Best value for money

Went to Los Roques with 11 friends from Brazil for a Kitesurfing trip and Dona Carmen was an excellent choice.
We booked 3 rooms, two of them were beach front (without aircon) the other one had no direct access to the beach, but had aircon.
The rooms are quite simple, don't expect any luxury. However, they are clean, well priced and well located.
The beach front rooms allowed us to organise drinks by the beach with locals and other tourists, which took the Los Roques experience to another level.
Staff was really friendly and we had lots of fun with them.
Food was simple, but tasteful, clean and eatable. Exactly what I would expect a budget place.
We left plenty of expensive kitesurfing and photograph equipment laying around, even without lockers and had no theft issues, whatsoever.
I wouldn't recommend the place for a romantic trip, but definitely recommend it for groups looking for exploring the island, doing sports and meeting the locals.

Several visits ended with theft from the safety deposit

I have been to Los Roques many times - more than ten at least - and stayed at Dona Carmen several of these visits. While I have suspected theft before, it was confirmed this last visit. It is with a heavy heart I had to email the owner, on behalf of our six man strong Swedish sports fishing group, because I love Los Roques and would like the truth to be different. The location of this posada is good, and the value is OK for Los Roques, but it ended up to be an expensive story.
In short, we left the deposit to the old woman in charge, for safety keeping. But instead of keeping our valuables safe, several hundred USD as well as several thousand BSF was stolen. All in all we estimate the loss to over 700 USD divided on six persons. In addition to this another guest had a camera and a cell phone stolen. Very sad for us to see that our beloved Dona Carmen is not to be trusted. We lost some more faith in Venezuela. And Dona Carmen lost several returning as well as potential customers. In addition to this, the staff are rude most of the time and the food are considered horrible by most guests we talk to. We got tourist diarrhea a few times during every visits to this posada, but since the price is relatively good and the location is convenient when you carry many rods, we kept returning, hoping for a better cook every year. Until this last visit. Now we had enough! Pick another place if you value your belongings, a friendly smile or good food.

Very good location
