Idyllic stay at the Flamingo Cat Ba
Despite a few small problems, we had a very relaxing stay with an idyllic view, excellent bedding thanks to Mr. Hùng Dô who made things more pleasant. And the smiling restaurant service with Nhu who is the natural smile of Vietnam.

Flamingo Beach Resort Cat Ba – THE best stay in Cat Ba
We just got back from Flamingo Beach Resort and I can’t recommend it enough.
The property itself is stunning — set right on the coast with that huge, sweeping view. What makes it stand out is the sheer range of amenities. There are multiple swimming pools for all ages, dedicated play areas for kids, a sky bridge that’s perfect for photos, and the sky top bar where you can watch the sunset over the bay with a drink in hand.
The buffet breakfast spread was fantastic — huge variety, fresh, and they actually restock quickly so nothing ever runs out. But the real highlight is the private beach. Clean, calm, and you don’t have to fight for space.
Our room was wonderful too — big, comfortable, and the balcony with the ocean view was the best place for morning coffee. Waking up to that view never got old.
Special mention to Xuyen from the staff — she was of immense help through the entire planning and visit. She answered all our questions, gave great local info, and sorted our car bookings without any hassle. Having someone that responsive made the trip way smoother.
If you’re heading to Cat Ba and want a resort that balances relaxation with things to do, Flamingo nails it. We’ll be back.

Gem of a hotel with hidden inconveniences
Even though this is a stunning hotel with lovely beach and pool in the middle of pure nature and breathtaking views it has it’s inconveniences. The top floor bar is sensational, but always empty and quiet. The bridge and balcony is fantastic and offers the best views. The gardeners must have their hands full. There are plenty of loungers and the hotel is clean and safe. There is no on site grocery shop.
Things to look out for:
1. No food in the room policy, it is unclear what are you able to consume in the room. The reception told us, no smelly food is allowed, which can be understandable, but on the rules sheet you receive upon arrival it says : it is recommended to only eat in their restaurant to avoid any dietary problems or food poisoning. But they only have 1 restaurant available for dinner, overpriced and very quiet with 0 atmosphere with bunch of waiters just hoping to serve someone. It is so much better and cheaper to eat outside. Food wasn’t great about 4 out of 10. The buffet breakfast however was great, with a lot to offer.
2. Shuttle service. This only takes you to bottom part of the hotels and it is often too busy to be available.
3. Miscommunications. We asked if they could call cable car company to see if they are definitely running on particular day, in order not to miss our flight. One person told us they were closed and one that they were open. Frustrating. Only handful of staff speak english.
4. You are not allowed to dry your clothes on the balcony. After you swim 3x a day there is only one little drying stand you can use inside the room and obviously it takes forever to dry your clothes especially when advised not to open your balcony due to insects.
5. Kids club- haha. You have to pay for everything. There is a play area for small kids which is free but otherwise you have to purchase pricey tokens for everything else and most of it doesn’t work or is switched off.
6. Complimentary foot soak. 15 minutes of sitting with your feet in a bucket of hot water. just weird.
7. Indoor pool was good, but a bit dated and dirty, you could see brown lines from water everywhere. Sauna was good and so was the gym.
Overall good hotel just needs to improve to charge premium.
