Homestay with very beautiful river and mountain view
Very beautiful homestay with view of Son River and rocky mountains across the river. Really everything exceeded my expectations. In the afternoon and early morning, I even take the opportunity to go swimming, the water here is so green, I can see moss. The room is clean, the staff is enthusiastic, I only went for 2 people but they still ordered a small amount of food, and the food was very delicious. Will definitely come back here next time.

Highly recommend
Lovely friendly and rustic peaceful stay. We went as two couples with teenagers. This was gorgeously positioned by the river on a quiet Vietnamese country street. Full menu and drinks available, breakfast and food we ordered was delicious. Rooms whilst basic were comfortable and have everything you need. Not far by taxi to the town with restaurants, duck farm, paradise cave and dark cave. The team will organise a driver to take you out for the day and wait for you, all at reasonable prices. This is rustic Vietnam at its best. As you go into the street you’ll be met by children and families wanting to test their English. Highly recommend.

Nice Place in the quiet end of town
Nice place right on river at the quiet end of town. Rooms are very comfortable and clean. Restaurant is fine and breakfast was simple and well presented. Owner helps with trips and car bookings. Very good value for money.

Worth it for the money
The hotel stay off side a bit, very quiet location. Especially at night time, it is nothing around. All the staffs are very nice, they will provide help to everything. They provided bicycles to ride around. Son River house just stay right on the river, very quiet and romantic. The air quality super fresh. Their rooms kind of big and comfortable. Ms. Lucy help us arrange all the tours. Willing to recommend to any like to stay quiet and romantic. You need to reserve your dinner a day before if you like to enjoy local foods. Very fresh and delicious.

Not Clean and Not Honest
I’m really confused by the 5 star reviews for this homestay...
Cleanliness: When we walked in to the room the man who show it to us started inspecting the bed and scraping dead knats off the bed with his credit card. The bathroom shower had holes behind the fixtures and no soap. We found dead insects in the corners. The entry mat was filthy and looked as if it had never been washed. The curtain had stains that looked like bug guts. When we walked on the floors our feet got dirty and both the towels and blanket had stains although had been washed.
Prices: We were charged about $25 each way to and from the train station which seemed extraordinarily high for the area. Each ride into the town was a couple more dollars. Finally we asked to do laundry and the price was clearly made up on the spot (he took a moment to consider we had come back from a hike and already handed him the laundry) (30K whereas we had gotten it for 20K in Hanoi). They also charged for 6 kilos for the same amount that was 4 kilos in Hanoi...hmmm. So for a place that was cheap at only $22/night we ended up paying an extra $80 in charges for two nights.
Amenities: The AC was mediocre at best. It kept the room cool but it wasn’t very comfortable for sleeping.
Location: It is in a very beautiful spot on the river but so secluded that it would be much better to save money and convenience on taxi rides and stay nearer to the town.
Sales Tactics: As soon as we booked this place, Lucy started texting and calling us on WhatsApp relentlessly. This was a month before we were in Vietnam and AFTER we told her we had a tour in Phong Nha already booked. This was really off putting especially when we were busy with other things like work before our trip. Additionally she waited until 9PM on the second night to inform us we had “two booking” and must cancel to avoid being charged for two rooms. Our reservation on booking.com showed only one...strange.
Friendliness: While the brother and sister were by no means rude or unpleasant, I wouldn’t not describe the environment as as warm and inviting other reviewers described. They speak very little English and all the communication is done via WhatsApp with Lucy who is very pleasant but was no where to be seen! Anytime we needed something (taxi, breakfast, new non-stained towels) we had to text her and wait for her to respond (sometimes up to 1.5 hours). I’m not sure if Lucy is actually their sister or a service to communicate with English speaking guests. If so that’s fine but it would be appreciated if they were upfront about what was going on.
The location has promise but should really work on cleanliness and being honest with guests about prices. I left feeling like we were taken advantage of and slept in a dirty room.
