A great way to enjoy the beachfront promenade is on two wheels. Pedal past the turquoise waters, palm-lined sands and public art installations as the city’s gleaming skyline unfolds ahead. Perched high above the city in one of its tallest skyscrapers, Observation Deck at 300 delivers Abu Dhabi’s most jaw-dropping views. Floor-to-ceiling windows spectacularly frame the Corniche, islands and hazy, sprawling desert beyond. Come at sunset, when the city glows gold, or for a sumptuous high tea with even higher vistas.

Amid a desert backdrop, the Corniche surprises with swathes of lush greenery perfect for barbecues, picnics and exercising. Lake Park impresses with its fountain and illuminated bridge, while adjoining Formal Park boasts neat lawns and a hedge maze. Kids will love Family Park’s playground, and Heritage Park’s replica old-style abodes offer a glimpse at traditional Emirati life.

The Corniche Beach is the neighbourhood’s seafront playground, where powdery white sands meet crystalline waters. It’s split into family-friendly zones, featuring playgrounds, sun loungers and dedicated quiet areas, as well as the livelier Al Sahil section for singles and groups. Beach sports, safe swimming and cycling are on offer, while boat trips to Al Lulu Island add an extra splash of adventure.

Cultural sites and museums along the Corniche showcase Emirati heritage and culture. The Founder’s Memorial honours the UAE’s founder, Sheikh Zayed, with art displays, interactive exhibits and a giant 3D portrait. Across the breakwater, a souk and mosque replicate a desert village at the Emirates Heritage Village. And at the promenade’s northern end, Dhow Harbour’s working dhows, boat tours and fish market showcase maritime history.

From casual beachfront cafes and elegant afternoon teas to speedy shawarma spots, restaurants along the Corniche satisfy a diverse range of tastes and budgets. Savour Middle Eastern menus alongside authentic dishes from China, Italy, Thailand and beyond. Many upscale hotels take fine dining to the next level, with innovative flavours competing with the seaside scenery for your attention.

While nightlife around the Corniche is calmer than on Al Maryah and Yas islands, the neighbourhood still shines after dark. Sunset drinks are essential, whether at a swanky rooftop lounge or a laid-back beachside bar. For live music, Jazz & Fizz Bar at Sofitel Abu Dhabi Corniche pairs a sophisticated soundtrack with signature cocktails.

For a taste of local crafts, the souk at Emirates Heritage Village is packed with stalls offering marine-inspired crafts, ‘Sadu’ (geometric embroidery) and ‘Khous’ (handwoven palm leaves). If global retail is more your thing, you’ll find popular brands alongside kids’ entertainment at WTC Mall. And you’ll find high-end cosmetics, homeware and jewellery boutiques at Nation Towers Mall.

Over the National Day weekend in December, the Corniche lights up with vibrant fireworks displays celebrating the UAE’s founding. From mid-December into January, the Mother of the Nation Festival (MOTN) brings food trucks, fairground attractions, pop-up shopping and live music to three city locations. And in October, the nearby Marina Mall is the venue for FIBA 3x3 international basketball matches.
