Fine campsite for visiting Rome but not for a holiday!

Disappointing accommodation experience despite good location
We booked the Roan Premium 3 bedroom accommodation for six people and found it far too small. There was very little storage space, meaning there was nowhere sensible to put clothes, suitcases or personal belongings. It felt cramped from the moment we arrived. In fact, it was so impractical for four adults and 2 children that we ended up booking an additional unit through HU Easy XL accommodation for the grandparents.
Unfortunately, the HU accommodation quality was also disappointing. The first unit we were allocated had an air conditioning unit that was dropping ice and had an unpleasant smell, so we had to be moved.
The replacement accommodation wasn’t much better. The bathroom window would not close properly, creating both a security issue and an opportunity for insects to enter. Despite reporting it immediately, maintenance did not attend on the first night. The window was eventually repaired on day two, but it shouldn’t have been handed over to guests in that condition.
The additional accommodation booked for the grandparents was noticeably older and tired, with signs of wear and age throughout.
A few basic checks before guests arrive would have prevented most of the issues we experienced.
Overall, if you’re considering the Easy XL accommodation beware it’s old! And if you’re considering a Premium a Roan for six people, be aware that space is extremely limited.

Catfish Galore
This camping village had been very renowned for being a great family getaway just ‘off the edge of Rome’.
This campsite makes Butlins look chic.
It in fact is not off the edge of Rome it is a walk across a road of rubble to a so called bus stop to then board a bus that smells very unpleasant before also getting on run-down trains.
The campsite itself is very large which you may assume to be a positive factor, however when you are placed over a 10 minute walk away from the facilities and to the exit of the site in 35 degree heat it is not the most efficient, especially with little ones.
Do not even get me started on the cleanliness of the pool water. Lord have mercy I couldn’t even see my sister as she dived under the surface of opaque water. The pool does not get cleaned and there are millions of people aggressively splashing and play fighting meaning there is no room to actually swim.
The facilities themselves are not too bad I cannot fully fault them, apart from the inconvenient distance from our chalet. Certain fridges with drinks are charging 4 euro and above for bottled fizzy such as Fanta and sprite which is ridiculous but they must need the funds to tart up this place so I won’t judge.
The chalet was abysmal. We booked one that supposedly sleeps 6 people but they just have measured 6 squirrels when they decided on the suitable amount of visitors because there was absolutely no room for 5 of us. To think that there was meant to be space to have another person stay in there with us makes me sweat at the thought of being even more crammed together.
We were given 1 roll of toilet roll for a 4 night stay with 5 people. Do they not use the loo in Italy? Or do they wipe with their hands? Please inform me this must be a culture shift.
Rome as a city is overrated, but I won’t go into that as my review will probably get deleted like it did for my last one.
Overall:
- Rude people
- Poor hygiene standards and etiquette
- Lack of special awareness from other guests
- Bland food (brought my own hot sauce)
- MASSIVELY overpriced taxis
Thanks for your time.
